    The Adventurers (1)

    Biography :

Vocal group from Newark composed by  Gerald Perry (Tenor), Walter Simmons (Tenor), Eddie Johnson (Tenors), Jay Jackson (Baritone), Mack Willliams (Bass) and James Wickers (Bass/Guitar) . In 1961, The Adventurers cut an album "Can't Stop Twisting" on the Columbia label. Only one 45 was taken from it, "Rock And Roll Uprising" (Columbia 42227, 1961).  The top side was penned by group member Gerald Perry  (with Rose Marie McCoy and Dorian Burton - names we recognise from more tunes co-penned by Joe Simmons, as Davie's discography clearly shows).

    The Adventurers (1)

When the Adventurers left Columbia Records, Johnny Brantley produced the group on Music World and Compass. The Adventurers recorded for the great Music World label, the very fine "I've Caught You Cheating" (Music World 110, 1965), penned by Gerald Perry with "Darlin'"and "(These Days) A Good Girl Is So Hard To Find" with "Easy Baby " on Compass. The Adventurers  have a last single on Blue Rock. The Adventurers released 4 singles over 8 years .

    The Adventurers (1)

The Adventurers (or some variation of the group) also recorded as the Crown Four (much like the Diplomats moonlighted as the Four Puzzles for Fat Back. In any case, Crown Four's "Birth Of A Playboy" (Lee John 619, 1964) written by Gerald Perry (by himself, according to BMI; with another group member, Eddie Johnson, according to the label credits), and its falsetto-led flip (Eddie Johnson), are also included on the Chosen Few album.

    Biography :

The Pastels are the Riels Sisters : Carolyn, Patricia, and Mary. They are originally from Bastrop, Louisiana area, but were singing out of Dallas, TX for their record. They worked in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, singing vocal back-up. They made several recordings under different names, Bill Smith, would record them and give them a different name for each recording. "Sleep Tight"  was record that produced just for them, to try and help them make it on their own. The flip side of this record is a catchy tune called "Do You Ever Think of Me".

    The Pastels (6)

They are sisters to John Wesley Ryles (Riels), who was on the top of the Country Charts in the 70's and 80's with songs such as "Kay" and "Once and a Lifetime Thing". Patricia also recorded with Jimmy Ware, one he wrote himself "Very Few Heartaches" under the name, Jack and Jill, this record did very well. The other Song "Laurie's Love" is Jimmy Ware backed by The Pastels.

1963 - Duke Of Nothin' (Archibald # II) / Jolly Cholly (May 134)

    Biography :

In 1960, The Castaleers disbanded. Ron Henries, who had already split, continued on when he joined Dipsy and the Doodles for their only single “(Archibald II) The Duke of Nothing” b/w “Jolly Cholly” on Colpix subsidiary May Records in 1963. He enjoyed national with this Providence-based group, which included former 5 Dukes member Danny Jett, Everett "Grumpy" Mitchell & Ralph Johnston.

This “answer record” to the Gene Chandler smash “The Duke Of Earl” brought national attention to Ron Henries’ new Rhode Island-based group. It remains a favorite on oldies stations around the world. Despite the group’s proximity to popular amusement park Jolly Cholly’s Funland in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, the record’s B-side was written by their New York producer and had nothing to do with the southern New England summer hot spot.
