Biography :
Formed in 1957 by five men who attended Cumberland High School in Nashville, the Crescendos succeeded with the song "Oh Julie". The record sold over one million copies, earning a gold disc. The Crescendos were recorded by the independent Nashville production company, Nu-Star, owned by Noel Ball and Ken Moffett .
Cash Box March 15, 1958
Ball was a disc jockey on Radio WSIX and had the only rock'n'roll show in Nashwville. Moffett came into music via a day-time job with the Genesco shoe company. Moffett and Ball spent all one Sunday recording the song, and nothing was happening until Moffett came up with the idea of adding à high-flying repetitive girl voice - that of 16-year old Janice Green, who by chance was present in the studio with her parents for an audition.
Janice with The Crescendos (3)
Janice came from Inglewood, East Nashville and later recorded one solo single for Nasco as "The Oh Julie Girl" (6013) with the Crescendos in support. Her haunting background chant on ‘Oh Julie’ was the unique gimmick which lifted the recording into an exalted realm.
