The Twin-Tones aka The Twins (Hicksville, Long Island)
1957 - Jo-Ann / Before you go / my dancing lady / One mail a day (EP RCA 4107)
1958 - The Flip-Skip / My dear (RCA 7148)
1958 - Joann's sisters / Who knows the secret (RCA 7235)
In December of 1957 twins, Johnny and James Cunningham, recorded a song they had written called "Jo Ann". They released it on RCA records under the name "The Twin Tones".
They had minor success with the song but it was soon covered by the popular group "The Playmates" and became a top 20 hit for them. The Playmates version echoed the fine Sax solo contained in the Twin Tones version.
Both versions of this song are considered great pop rock tunes from the 1950's but this version by the Twin Tones is preferred by many early rock fans.
They did Jo Ann for an RCA EP in the US and actually got some airplay when it was released as a single in Germany and some other European territories. There is a CD with 16 cuts by this duo, all recorded around 1957.
They also recorded as the Twins and Jim and John.
My Dear Jo-Ann
